Information for Prospective Families

Allowing the individual to be themselves

A day in the life of an Auckland Montessori College student

  • Arrival

Campuses open from 8.00am and students may arrive at an individual negotiated time that suits them.

The campus is close to public transport hubs allowing students to travel independently to school. Others are dropped off by family, or if permitted, drive themselves.

Students sign-in and greet other students and guides.

  • Learning

Students set up and get started on their learning goals using their agreed schedule to guide their day. The fortnightly learning schedule is developed alongside teachers and is tailored to each student.

Learning is centred around individual learning, rather than structured classroom lessons.

Students support each other and participate in lively discussions.

  • School life

Students utilise the various environments at each campus that best suits their needs on each day.

Kitchens are provided and students can bring their lunch, cook using communal supplies, or purchase lunch.

Students venture out into the community for exercise and activities - with or without teachers (pending agreements with caregivers).

  • End of day

Campus closes at 5pm and students can stay as long as they wish for the day.

Each student tidies up their workspace, returns materials to the right place, and says goodbye to each teacher on site.

Sign out for the day and head home.

Are you new to Montessori?

Montessori for teens and pre-teens (11-18) respects teens' developmental needs for independence and social connection. Learning is hands-on, project-based, and interdisciplinary, often involving real-world work. Teachers guide self-directed learning in multi-age groups, fostering responsibility, critical thinking, and preparation for adulthood.
